Matthew is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addictions Counselor. He has been working with addictions and co-occurring illness for over 13 years. He obtained his bachelors degree in human services with a specialization in addictions from Metropolitan State University. He went on to get a masters degree from University of Northern Colorado in counseling psychology. Matthew later obtained a second Masters degree in adult education and human resources from Colorado State University. He is trained in EMDR and a unique protocol of EMDR called DeTUR that focuses specifically on addictions. Matthew believes education and therapy are interchangeable and that “therapy heals while education empowers”. Matthew’s lifetime goal of being useful to his community is expressed through his joint theory approach. He integrates transformative and experiential learning with mindfulness, cognitive and solution focused therapies. Matthew has been a long time advocate in supporting community access to education and mental health services.
